Approximately 22% of young Catawba alumni are pursing continuing educational opportunities. Catawba graduates have been accepted at graduate and professional schools at Duke University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, the University of Edinburgh, among many others.

Catawba College alumna Jasika Nicole Pruitt ‘02

Jasika Nicole Pruitt ‘02

Actress and Illustrator

Pruitt studied theatre, dance, voice and studio art at Catawba. She is best known for playing Astrid Farnsworth on "Fringe" and in the film "Take the Lead" with Antonio Banderas. She has many other television credits under her belt, as well as television commercials, regional theatre and even the New York stage. 

"Allow yourselves to get swept up in the beautiful, unexpected moments of your life without losing sight of what makes you feel both happy and whole. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Relish in the journey of your story, and remember to write in pencil."

While at Catawba, Dayvault was involved in SGA, Alpha Chi Honor Society, Order of the Blue and White, Political Science Association, Phi Epsilon Honor Society, and the College Republicans.

Rathbun was inducted into the Catawba College Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 and had his first taste of the profession at age 12 when he called an American Legion game at Newman Park, Catawba's baseball field.

LaRosa became the first and only BodogFight Women's Bantamweight Champion; LaRosa played Field Hockey at Catawba while earning her BS in Physical Education. She was also a member of Catawba's Judo Club.

Singer, Songwriter, Community Leader Activist, Founder of Inspire the Fire 

Reed, currently Catawba's Artist-In-Residence, won the BMI Foundation's 9th Annual John Lennon Scholarship Award in 2006 soon after earning his Music Business degree from Catawba. His non-profit organization ITF helps provide students with the opportunity to enhance their skills in the arts whether that is singing, dancing, visual arts, or one of the many other areas included in the arts.

William L. Swing '56

Director General of the International Organization for Migration; Six-time United States Ambassador

Swing now lives in Geneva, Switzerland, where he serves as the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). He was awarded the "Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany" in 2014 by German President Joachim Gauck, marking the 60th anniversary of relations between Germany and the IOM.

Hawley played on the Catawba Football team for two years before deciding to switch to fishing every day. 

"If it weren't for those early years at Catawba and fishing on High Rock, there is absolutely a zero chance that I would be where I am at today."
